1. Bánh xèo (Vietnamese crepe)

Ask a Vietnamese people what the iconic dish of Vietnam is and one answer that keeps coming up is pho. However, for Vietnamese, especially Saigon people, one of many street dishes that they usually eat is Banh xeo. This is an ordinary food eaten by most of people in many regions in Vietnam, but each place has its own name and different versions. In Saigon, people add eggs in flour mixture to fry to create crunchier, and its shape is much larger than the ones in other regions. Banh xeo is rolled with various vegetables such as lettuce, houttuynia, perilla, etc. in a rice paper, accompanied by sweet and sour fish sauce blended with garlic, lemon, chilly and sugar.

2. Bánh mì (Vietnamese bread)

This is a great dish that CNN used to spend words to praise and list in the top dishes must-eat in Saigon. Banh mi is originated from France, a kind of Baguette, but when entering to Vietnam, it is Vietnamese to leverage this Baguette to a new high standard- Banh mi. The crunchy of the dish includes a slight layer of pate, and full of meat/ packed fishes/ chả giò or omelet depending on people’s choice, which makes a fantastic taste. Moreover, there are also other kinds of vegetables such as cucumber, cilantro, and it would be not completed if no mention of the sauce to make the dish tastier.

3. Gỏi cuốn (Spring roll)

If you are , let’s take a bite of a Spring roll to give back your appetite. The food is common in many regions in Vietnam, and be the favorite food of Vietnamese. The main ingredients are fresh white vermicelli, boiled meat, fried egg/ or boiled shrimp, lettuce, and cucumber rolled all in a rice paper, turning into a tasty big round roll. Moreover, this dish is estimated whether good or not depending on a skilled blending of the sauce. This is supposed to be the beneficial dish of Vietnamese, extremely suitable for eating in hot weather and uncomfortable days in Vietnam. 4. Phá lấu

It is one of many Chinese foods which has a special flavor and strongly recommended by the Saigon youth. This food seems to be strange and a little terrified when we mention the ingredients. The crucial materials include viscera of livestock or poultry such as heart, liver, stomach, etc. that will be washed and marinated for a fabulous taste. When the cooking is done, the dish can be eaten with rice or Bánh mì; especially it would be perfect if the hot spicy of Phá Lấy used together with a cool bottle of beer — the best of the best in your experience in food.

5. Bánh Tráng Trộn (Mixed rice paper)

If you visit to Vietnam, and ask students about their most must-eat food at least once a week, the answer that costs high percentage in many options will be Banh Trang Tron. This kind of food is originated in Tay Ninh province, the home of rice paper and shrimp salt. The mixture with a plenty of ingredients of rice paper cut into small pieces, blending with oil, dried shrimp salt, dried beef meat, peanut and vegetables such as unripe mango, laksa leaf is always enchanting students, and even children in elementary or matured people. The saltiness of shrimp salt, the sour of unripe mango, together with the hot spicy of satay oil has been stimulating the taste, making people’s appetite that always want to eat.
