Watch Out for Those Christian Extremists

Thousands of Christians in Iowa were advocating for me to die.

Since the Paris terrorist attacks, there has been a renewed fear over Islam and allowing Syrian refugees into the United States.

Many politicians in the United States, on both sides of the aisle, have advocated for tightening the reigns on allowing Syrian refugees enter the United States. Some politicians have even proposed that only Christian refugees should be allowed.

Yet we don’t worry about the extremists we have at home.

Last week, as I was celebrating my two-year anniversary with my girlfriend in Seaside, Oregon, I got to hear Pastor Swanson advocate for the annihilation of “homosexuals” over the radio. Here’s a sample of this Pastor’s speech:

This was not a random rant. At the same conference, a pamphlet was handed out advocating for the death penalty of gay people. Popular politicians attended alongside 2,00o other Christians. In Iowa.

2,000 Christians who — even when condemned by mainstream media — are not called extremists or terrorists.

When I heard Pastor Swanson’s speech for the first time on the radio, it took all I had to maintain my composure and refrain from breaking down in tears. As a bisexual man dating a bisexual girl, this “Pastor” and his followers are a direct and tangible threat to my well-being

Many are worried about letting Islamic extremists in. I’m more worried about the Christian extremists that were let in on the merit of simply being born on American soil.
