Medicinenet.com defines Psoriasis as “a noncontagious common skin condition that causes rapid skin cell reproduction resulting in red, dry patches of thickened skin. The dry flakes and skin scales are thought to result from the rapid buildup of skin cells. Psoriasis commonly affects the skin of the elbows, knees, and scalp.”

Essential oils are being used for natural treatment of psoriasis and eczema with great success. It provides help in relieving itching and promotes skin regeneration. It is always advisable to use pure essential oils over harsh meditations often prescribed by doctors.

We have included some popular essential oils with can help with the symptoms of psoriasis and eczema.

Bergamot: This essential oils will stimulate the growth of healthy cells to replace the dead skin cells that have accumulated on the surface of the skin. Several active properties in Bergamot oil are able to accomplish all of these as the chemicals make the skin sensitive to sunlight.

How to use Bergamot Oil:

Topical application: Dilute the Bergamot Oil in a carrier oil such as grape seed oil. 1 drop of essential oil per 1–4 oz. of carrier oil is recommended.

Note: Bergamot Oil should not be administered topical or internally to pregnant or nursing mothers and to young children. Oral intake of bergamot oil can be dangerous and is therefore, not recommended. Before starting the use of bergamot oil, seek the advice of your doctor.

Geranium: Geranium oil is an essential oil distilled from the stem and leaves of the geranium plant. You can use this oil to treat eczema as well as for drying and scarring skin.

How to use Geranium Oil:

Put a few drops of geranium oil onto a cotton swab and apply directly to effected area. You can also add it to lotions (make sure the lotions aren’t full of chemicals). For scalp problems with psoriasis and eczema, add a few drops into your shampoo.

Note: Geranium oil is harmless and very useful. Use sparingly to avoid skin irritation. Dilute well before use if using topically, unless otherwise directed. For external use only. Keep away from children.

Lavender: Lavender oil can help relieve the pain and itching, while providing stress, which helps to boost immunity.

How to use Lavender Oil:

Lavender Oil is gentle enough to apply directly to your skin. Alternatively, you can mix it with a carrier oil and massage it into your skin.

Note: This oil is very mild and is safe to use during pregnancy. It is safe to use for children. Dilute well before use if using topically, unless otherwise advised. For external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use.

Tea Tree: In addition to preventing infection, tea tree oil shows some anti-inflammatory activities, just what is needed in the case of eczema. It has anti itch and pain relief benefits. Tea Tree oil reduce flare ups and significantly cuts down on the irritation and discomfort, giving the skin a chance to reduce scarring and heal itself.

How to use Tea Tree Oil:

Apply tea tree oil mixed with a carrier oil to the effected area two to three times a day. Make sure to wash and pat dry the area first.

Give it some time to work. The skin normally takes a month to completely regenerate itself; however, you may see results in a week.

Rose

Chamomile

Sage

Peppermint

Patchouli

Essential Oils by Mistico Mimi’s Psoriasis Blend — all natural

3 drops Bergamot,

4 drops Lavender

3 drops German Chamomile

3 drops Mandarin

2 drops Rose

1 oz (30ml) grape seed oil

Mix all the above ingredients together. Apply directly to skin, as required. Note: Rose Otto is an expensive essential oil, try using the rose floral water instead.

You can also use all these oils with your diffuser or through inhalation.
