Kneeling

I’m kneeling for peace
For those struggling to live
And those already deceased
Black and Brown
Mothers and Fathers
Sons and Daughters
Their skin brings fatalities
At the hands of brutality
Disguised
In uniforms
Of the good guys
Let me clarify
The ones we don’t despise
Serve the law and not lies
I’m kneeling for those in Blue
To serve and protect me and you
So that we all can pursue
The American Dream
Where every race bleeds
Red, White, and Blue
No matter your skin tone or hue
I kneel to renew
The flag’s values
Courage, conviction
Honor, I’m living
Yes, I’m persistent
Equalize our positions
No, it’s not fiction
Life is non-fiction
Absorb this diction
That’s the anthem
I choose to pursue
What say you?

They say, “What you kneelin for?”

I’m kneeling cause I’m free
I’m kneeling to proceed
I’m kneeling so that we
Live together, you and me

Peace and Harmony

I’m kneeling when I pray
Five times in a day
Wearing my shalwaar kameez
With rows of a billion
And some change
Trying to pray for a change
Living out my own change
Droppin dimes, all the same
I’m kneeling to stay awake
I’m kneeling cause we relate
Black, White, and Brown skin
No race for first place, we all win
Sikh, Jew, Christian, Hindu
No matter the label that carries you
I’m kneeling for God’s sake
To match love with all this hate

I’m kneeling with Muhammad Ali
Fighting for peace, not wars
I’m kneeling with Rosa Parks
Sitting in the front, nothing more
I’m kneeling with Martin Luther King
So I can protest in peace as I sing
I’m kneeling with Malcolm X
Because seeking the Truth is a process
I’m kneeling with Colin Kaepernick
Because he’s in this legacy we can’t forget

They say, “What you kneelin for?”

I’m kneeling cause I’m free
I’m kneelin to proceed
I’m kneelin so that we
Live together, you and me

Peace and Harmony
