Four Challenges

The first challenge is in creation. We create because we must express ourselves. We have a vision for a solution to a problem that’s near and dear to us.

We see it in our mind’s eye, the possibilities of everything it can become, and work tirelessly to bridge that gap from possibility to reality.

The second challenge is in communication. How do I communicate that sense of possibility and opportunity to others in a compelling way?

Then comes the third challenge. The people who need to see what this is, understand. They see it too, they’re bought in with us. How do we build it? Where do we find the driven and determined people, with the skills to execute this vision?

The fourth challenge, though — that’s the hardest. The willingness to release control. To let go of the creation.

The assumption that the implementation of your vision has to have a perfect alignment to what you see in your mind’s eye, that only you truly understand what it must be, when it’s just right — that has to be set aside if you ever want to make something truly more valuable than the sum of its parts. If you consider yourself the caretaker of a product’s vision, this way of thinking is one of the greatest threats you will ever face.

Or, perhaps, you are content having a total addressable market size of one.
