You make some great points here! However, to play devil’s advocate, you do still get to choose who you read and who you don’t... I wouldn’t be afraid to try new authors either! If you find an article you don’t like, you can stop reading, giving less read time. Or you can finish it if you like, but you do pay for the privilege.
I used to find articles I completely disagreed with or writing I didn’t respect, but I’d give a clap or two or three because they got me interested enough to click, to read a bit, and to think.
I think it’s fair that we pay a fraction of our $5 even if we read what we don’t like, because we’ve still absorbed the author’s work. We used the product. I remember a few times I bought a novel that was so bad I either didn’t finish it or barely got through it, but I didn’t return it, half read, three weeks later. You can bet I didn’t but that author’s next book though. That’s the key to hate reading. The readers have the power to decide if it’s worth any attention or not.
Whether or not you agree, I hope you continue reading as much as you’d like!
