The Infinity Necklace

You know how odd it is when, suddenly, you see the same word or phrase or number over and over and it seems like the universe is trying to tell you something. Hence, you try to figure it out. It’s like a math problem, only harder. More like a math problem in a different language.

This was the case for me with the Infinity Necklace. I had never seen one before going to a luncheon with my metastatic breast cancer support group. One of my cancer sisters was wearing said necklace. She had given it by her office staff when she quit her job not long prior so she could go full on with her treatment.

Cancer, as it does, had suddenly taken over her life and left no room for the day to day of gainful employment. This happens quite frequently. Too frequently.

A few days later, I saw another such necklace; this one on another friend, who had received it as an anniversary gift. Seeing it twice in such a small amount of time made me think about the actual concept of Infinity. That symbol, that never-ending loop; my mind snagged on it and kept worrying it, round and round.

Because of a number of rapid fire personal life situations I hadn’t been able to attend my cancer support group for almost two months, and finally was able to return earlier this week.

You know, there is a lot to be said for sitting with a group of women who are Generation zzzz like yourself (yeah, I made that up — I mean Baby Boomers), talking about your shared experiences. It’s a bit like being in a secret society…
