It was hard to write, definitely. My sister has been in prison for 13 years and it’s still hard. I’m just now starting to deal with some of the deepest wounds. It’s a process, and I (we? Hopefully) might be working on it for the rest of our lives. But it’s also healing. There is freedom in letting these words out of me, in expressing what I’ve buried down deep and shown to very few people. Some of my closest friends don’t know this story. But I felt like it was time to tell it. My version of it, at least. I hope it helps you in your healing process, and I hope you continue to move down that path with grace — for your sister but also for yourself. And I hope there is love at the end of your journey, however it may look. Sending lots of love and support your way. I know how much you need it. xo
