I so appreciate this piece because after 45's jaw dropping speech, I looked the phrase up in six online dictionaries , including Urban and took about 45 min reading a mix of straight up articles, op-eds, and 🤢blogs. I tried to be as even handed as possible- reading conservative and conservative-not-so-much. What did I discover? There is no “alt-left”. That the alt- right ying has a dangling yang.
Only Urban Dictionary had an entry. Several, in fact…but it was the same skewed definition from half a dozen kids who just wanted to get their name onto the oh, so prestigious and discerning internet.
There is an Antifa… which does seem to hold the ideal of “fight fire and fury with fire and fury”
However, the alt-right has clearly named sub organizations that fall under the alt- right umbrella- KKK, skinheads, white supremacists, neonazis, etc.
Antifa stands alone, and gets wet, no “alt- left”umbrella… it is not a fully organized group… probably because all those against “alt-right “ do not flock for the furthest point at the other end of the spectrum, but would prefer to softly and stoically protect and stand calmly with the people the alt-right proudly and loudly threaten.
Good piece, tongue-in-cheek but not overly so. Letting historical facts speak for themselves, with barely a tweak here and there.
Bravo.
