Star of The Upcoming ‘Marilyn! The New Musical’- Emily Buchan
Emily Buchan is from Norfolk, England and she began seeing the world quite differently than other girls her age when she was only nine-years old. The reason for her change of perception was the theatre and the role she performed was Maid Marian in the play Robin Hood. She told us that when she walked out onto the stage in character for the first time she literally fell in love with the whole idea of acting and performing. That experience changed everything for her and she knew from that moment on that being in the entertainment world was what she wanted to do with the rest of her life.
Don’t we all wish we could have that kind of epiphany or magic moment early in life, or for that matter, anytime in our lives? A little later, after her Maid Marian stint, Emily won a drama and music scholarship to the prestigious Langley School. While there she sang, danced, acted and took up the saxophone. She performed solos in cabarets and was cast as the lead in many productions including, The Wizard of Oz, Grease and as Talulah in Bugsy Malone.
Not one to stop and relax or sit on her laurels, Emily always pushed herself to improve her acting skills. She auditioned for and was accepted in the cast of a National Youth Music theatre production, which was no small feat at the age of 15. She was cast again for the next two years and performed in musicals in Aberdeen and Plymouth. When she was sixteen Emily toured the United States with the Imago Theatre Company playing the roles of Inez, Estelle and the Valet in Jean Paul-Sartre’s play Huis Clos. When the tour reached the end of the line in San Francisco, California, Emily fell in love again, this time with the west coast and realized that that was where she needed to be to move her career forward.
She enrolled in the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, where Grace Kelly, Paul Rudd, Kirk Douglas, Adrian Brody, Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway and many other successful actors attended. She loved that school and feels that it taught her to really know who she is, which is at the core of knowing each and every character an actor portrays.
Emily has several feature films coming out this year along with appearances in TV shows and stage productions. She has also been cast in Marilyn! The New Musical, which will open in Las Vegas and will be featured in a psychological thriller opposite Malcolm McDowell.
