There were too many good entries in this last round of the HoloLens Challenge. The apps were mature and effective, demonstrating mixed reality’s clear potential for transforming education over the next 10 years.

This was a tough choice, but we’ve selected Sheer Industries Group’s Chem Demo as the winner of the most recent contest because their app is a brilliant execution of a standard trope in sci-fi movies: the 3D floating chemistry modeling tool. As we all know, we’re always just minutes away from an careless intern gesturing incorrectly and combining harmless monkey DNA with the T-Virus, setting off the next zombie apocalypse.

Sheer captures the essence of what we think of when we imagine a holo-education on the planet Vulcan. At the same time, there was just a hair’s breadth between this and the other amazing entries from Digital Meridian, fan-favorite 360World, Sebastian Gambolati, Chris Papenfuss, and Greater Atlanta Christian Schools. They all deserve our praise.
