My Sister’s Florida Home Tour

Everyone has a story to tell, and what better way to tell it than through your own home! Here is my sister and her husband’s home in Florida which we very carefully and lovingly put together to tell the story of our roots, culture, and background.

Both my sister and brother-in-law have really deep roots in both Uganda and India, so when I did her interiors, we went with a primarily neutral palette with clean minimalist furniture and lighting. We didn’t shy away from those bright poppy Indian hues and exquisite textiles though; they made subtle appearances in the linen, art and artifact pieces we selected as accents, as did the masks and weaved baskets of Uganda. It easily sets a mood and is a real conversation sparker.

The couple also didn’t hesitate to exhibit the talents of their family members (especially mine) and brag about what awesome people they are surrounded by! A lot of the artwork around the house was done by family members, for example, the Joshua Tree photo (by me on and some of the hanging African art by my mother. Not only is this encouraging for the artists, but it also ensures that the art in their house has a story behind it!
