Palm Trees in the Snow’ is a Spanish drama directed by Fernando Gonzalez, which is based on the novel Palmeras en la nieve written by Laz Gabas.

The movie is an interracial romantic tale of tale of Spanish young man Killian and Bisilia who belongs to a Guinea tribe named Bubi.

It begins with the love making scene, where Killian has to leave Bisilia forever. This love story remains undiscovered until Clarence, daughter of Killian’s brother Jacobo, decides to go to Bioko in Guinea.

Set back in the time when Equatorial Guinea was a Spanish colony., the Spanish people do coco plantation there and rule over the people of Guinea. Killian visited Guinea to work and fell in love with Bisilia as a nurse in the state hospital.

Palm Trees in the Snow’ takes twist and turns and Killian has to leave Guinea forever. The two lovers get separated and their love story remains incomplete and hidden until Clarence finds the clue about his family’s past and decides to find it.

Breaking it all down

I’ll be completely…

Palm Trees in the Snowbeautifully describes the truth of love and immortality. Love has no boundaries.

This thing is beautifully portrayed in the movie and the lead actor Mario Casas and Breta Vazquez have done justice with the characters. This movie has not only one love story but another love story is also there which proceeds along with the main story and leads to a drastic end of it.

This is the love story of Killian’s brother Jacobo and Julia.

Racism and distinction between two races is shown deeply in this movie. The hate and the clash between the two races can be seen in the movie at different points of time.

The local life of the Bubi tribe is represented accurately. The location is amazing and the camera angles used are just amazing, this gives a heavenly touch to the location.

“Life is a tornado. Peace, fury, and then peace again.” — Emilio Guttierrez Caba

The transition between the present and the past is very smooth and there are many elements in the movie like the person for which Clarence is looking for in Bioko is always under her and she never knew.

The pain of getting separated is showcased well. Also, all the bonds like father and son are highlighted by Killian and his father Anton. The vengeance between the brother is also shown in the movie.

In The End

The movie is a complete package of love, drama and emotions.

The pace of the movie is a little bit slower in the beginning but once you are into the movie you can’t stop watching it. In some places the movie becomes a little slow but this seems necessary to give a feel to the movie.

Every emotion in the movie is described so well, that you will fall in love with the story. This movie will make you smile and cry at the same time.

The story is unpredictable and you can’t tell what’s going to be next. One you feel that now everything is going to be fine then suddenly something happens and everything changes. Throughout the movie you will think that what makes them apart and how their love has not faded with time.

The surprising element will make you smile and the ending makes you cry. This is a worth watching movie and makes your heart melt. I would give it 4.5 out of 5.
