PSY 202 Week 2 DQ 2 Achieving Life Balance
http://www.homeworkmade.com/psy-202/psy-202-week-2-dq-2-achieving-life-balance/
Achieving Life Balance [CLOs: 1, 3, 4]. 1st Post Due by Day 3. Video: Kelly McGonigal: How to Make Stress Your Friend **You may view a written transcript of this video or click the “CC” button on the video player above.**
Prepare: Achieving balance in areas of life such as work, family, home, and school can be a challenge for adult students. If one area is neglected, other aspects of your life may suffer, creating a stressful environment. Read the Week Two Instructor Guidance, section 3.7, Chapter 5, and section 6.3 of your textbook. Next, watch the above video on stress.
Reflect: As an adult student, you juggle different responsibilities in life, such as your home, work, school, family, finances, and health. Your textbook states that long-term stress can harm mental or physical health and/or keep you from reaching your goals. Notice which areas in your own life are in balance and which seem to be out of balance. Reflect on the amount of stress that the out-of-balance areas cause. Consider ways to manage and minimize stress in your life to achieve balance.
Write: For this discussion, respond to the following:
PSY 202 Week 3 DQ 1 Assessing Strengths and Weaknesses
http://www.homeworkmade.com/psy-202/psy-202-week-3-dq-1-assessing-strengths-and-weaknesses/
Assessing Strengths and Weaknesses [CLOs: 1, 2]. 1st Post Due by Day 3.
Prepare: In this course, you have been given the opportunity to self-reflect. This discussion will provide you the opportunity to gain additional insight about yourself from the perspective of others. You will complete a 360- degree exercise where you will first self-reflect and then interview a selection of others about your strengths and weaknesses. Start by reading the Week Three Instructor Guidance and section 6.7 “The Trait Approach” in your textbook. The section in the textbook covers the Big Five personality traits; this will provide you with insight into the five factors of personality: Openness to Experience, Conscientiousness, Extroversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism (also known as Emotional Stability) (OCEAN).
The first step in this exercise is to list three areas that you consider your strengths and three areas that you consider your weaknesses. Keep the list to yourself, and do not share with anyone.
Next, identify three people who know you fairly well (e.g., parent, spouse, friend, co-worker, supervisor, etc.). Explain to each of them that this is a survey for school that will help you analyze your strengths and opportunities for growth.
Ask each person the following two questions and record the results.
PSY 202 Week 3 DQ 2 Developing a Growth Mindset
http://www.homeworkmade.com/psy-202/psy-202-week-3-dq-2-developing-a-growth-mindset/
Developing a Growth Mindset [CLOs: 2, 3, 4]. 1st Post Due by Day 3. View this video: Brain Research at Stanford: Mindsets **You may view a written transcript of this video or click the “CC” button on the video player above.**
Prepare: This discussion will examine your beliefs about your abilities and how your mindset can impact your success. Read Krakovsky’s article, The Effort Effect, and watch the video Brain Research at Stanford: Mindsets. These sources describe two types of mindsets: growth and fixed. Let’s look at an example:
Two Ashford University students talk about their first math course. Brooks states, “I’ve always been bad at math, and I know I will struggle to do well in this class.” Another student, Molly, says, “Math has not been my best subject in the past, but I am motivated and ready for this challenge and will do my very best!”
After earning a D in the course, Brooks states, “I knew I wasn’t going to do well in this class, and it didn’t helpthat I had a bad instructor and a confusing textbook.” Molly, on the other hand, received a B- in the course, saying to family and friends, “I studied hard for this class, took all of the practice quizzes, and knew my best efforts would pay off. I am very happy with the grade that I earned.”
Reflect: Analyze the example above, and consider which mindset (growth or fixed) each student demonstrates during their first math class. Now, reflect on your own beliefs about school and learning. Based on what you learned in the video and article, do you think your intellectual abilities are fixed or able to be developed? How does your mindset change as you approach different tasks?
Write: As you consider your own beliefs and mindset, address the following in your response:
PSY 202 Week 4 DQ 1 Intrinsic and Extrinsic Satisfaction
http://www.homeworkmade.com/psy-202/psy-202-week-4-dq-1-intrinsic-and-extrinsic-satisfaction/
Intrinsic and Extrinsic Satisfaction [CLOs: 2, 3]. 1st Post Due by Day 3. Activity: Take the time to click through the Intrinsic and Extrinsic Interactive Activity which provides further insight into intrinsic and extrinsic motivating factors.
Prepare: In our careers, we are typically driven by two different types of motivation: extrinsic and intrinsic. Extrinsic motivation is fairly easy to identify, because it relates to external, tangible rewards for doing our jobs. Paychecks, bonuses, praise, and benefits such as vacation time and health care can be considered extrinsic motivators for coming to work each day. Intrinsic motivation is different because it is an internal process that is based on one’s values and interests. Intrinsic factors are described as pride in one’s work, the ability to gain knowledge, and the ability to contribute. The interactive activity above provides further insight into intrinsic and extrinsic motivators.
Read section 8.4 in your text and the following articles for guidance on this discussion: Job Satisfaction & Motivation Benefits the Workplace, The Four Intrinsic Rewards That Drive Employee Engagement, and Job Satisfaction.
Reflect: Think about your values as you consider the intrinsic and extrinsic factors that are associated with your future career and their influence on career satisfaction. What are some extrinsic factors that you can reasonably expect? What are some intrinsic factors that you really want to attain?
Write: As you think about the information provided on intrinsic and extrinsic satisfaction provided by the interactive activity, articles, and the textbook, address the following in your response:
PSY 202 Week 4 DQ 2 Overcoming Challenges
http://www.homeworkmade.com/psy-202/psy-202-week-4-dq-2-overcoming-challenges/
Prepare: In section 8.6, “Employment and Education,” we find that adult students often face many challenges as they return to school to achieve their academic goals. Some of these might be managing one’s time to adequately prepare coursework, addressing issues with writing skills, or lack of support (personal or financial) from family or friends. Adult learners have a choice when facing these challenges. Either they can allow them to control their lives and prevent them from reaching their goals, or they can address the challenges in positive ways so that they no longer pose a threat to future achievement. Confidence is one way to overcome challenges. Please view the video above to learn more about the empowerment that confidence can bring.
Reflect: Think about the challenges you either currently face or might face as you strive to achieve your academic and career goals. How do they make you feel? In what ways can you convert them to positive opportunities for change?
Write: As you think about the challenges described in the text and in your own life, address the following in your response:
PSY 202 Week 5 DQ Career Development — Career Action Plan
http://www.homeworkmade.com/psy/psy-202/psy-202-week-5-dq-career-development-career-action-plan/
Career Development — Career Action Plan [CLOs: 1, 2, 3, 4]. 1st Post Due by Day 3.
Prepare: So far in this class, you have reflected upon past positive experiences in Week One, explored strategies for effective time-management in Week Two, learned much about your personality by completing Step 1 of the TypeFocus in Week Three, and identified careers that fit you best (Step 2 of the TypeFocus) in Week Four. Now it is time to put it all together and set career goals based on what you have learned about yourself, your values, and your interests.
To help you complete this discussion, download the Creating a Career Action Planning Checklist and check the boxes of the actions you plan to take in order to achieve your career goals. You will not submit the checklist, but use the information to help you formulate your responses to the following questions.
Note: For additional help in completing this task, you may log into the student portal at MyCareer and explore all the self-directed resources available as well as the 7-step Career Planning Process.
Reflect: Think about your career plans. Are you on track with those plans by pursuing your chosen major at Ashford University? Consider the steps you need to take now (other than school) to prepare yourself for your chosen career. What steps can you take later? Reflect on how you will hold yourself accountable and keep yourself motivated toward your goals.
Write: Use information from your checklist to help you formulate your responses to the following questions:
PSY 202 Week 5 Journal Reflecting for the Future
http://www.homeworkmade.com/psy-202/psy-202-week-5-journal-reflecting-for-the-future/
Purpose: Adult learners have a great desire to find the meaning in all they say, do, and learn. Connecting with the information, synthesizing with past experience, and hypothesizing about future application helps adult learners connect with what they have learned to make it more meaningful. In this journal, you will take some time to think about what has been meaningful for you this past five weeks.
Prepare: Review your discussion posts and the ongoing conversations with your classmates. What stood out to you? What was exciting and very relevant to your career goals or your personal life?
Reflect: As we wrap up this course, please take some time to reflect on what you have learned about yourself by exploring your past positive experiences, your personality, your ability to manage your time, your healthy lifestyle, and your ‘fit’ with your academic program of study. What are two self-discoveries that you believe will positively impact your career goals? Your personal life?
Write: Answer the following questions in two- to three-sentence paragraphs each:
