The Anatomy of Heartbreak

When a heart breaks no one can hear it.

Except the owner of said heart.

For him, the sound of the heartbreaking is so loud it is deafening. She cannot move for fear the sound will envelop her and never leave.

He dares not breathe. The water from the now broken dam threatens to drown him. He holds his breath for as long as he can. As long as he is allowed to. And then he drowns.

In the depths. At the very bottom. She lays. Unbelieving that she is here. That this is where she resides now. She can’t see the top. There is no light. There is no touch. There is no one. Only darkness. And the sounds of her broken heart.

Slowly trying to re-patch itself. Rejoin. But each waves destroys it. Again. And again. And again.

There seems no hope to be had.

There probably is. When the dam dries up. When every last drop is sucked up by the mighty sun. Forcing its rays down.

But for now. Only the unbearable sounds of heartbreak. So loud no one can hear it. Only me.
