Absolutely to #1 and #2 in that last section. I’m constantly amazed that the posts I bust out in a matter of hours do the best (one of them going viral). But those also happen to be the posts that are sparked by a current event and I have a pretty clear concept of what I want to write plus the sense of urgency to get it out there. Generally speaking, I think it can be hard for humor pieces to get discovered on Medium. But when it’s topical, it helps enormously. (Also, the link in your last paragraph is directing to your Tiny Houses piece … thought you might want to know.) Thanks for this great piece, nice to see my own experience reflected here … especially that sense of spending time crafting a piece and then *crickets* Disappointing, every time. But, people.
