Oy, I do the same thing with my therapist. Last session I was really angry with him, but I did not let the anger out. It was a horrible mistake in retrospect.
I’m glad you were able to show her your anger, and so what if you had to let a different part of you speak in order to do that? The point is to get there, and, like you say below, once you’re able to do it and realize it’s safe (i.e., she did not throw you out of her office for it), you’ll be able to own it and to eventually integrate that part of you into your core personality.
The eventual goal for most people is to become better integrated, and you get there however you get there. The point is to move in the direction of progress, however you do it.
