Today we had a jam packed day of events which we were meant to do the day I was ill. We started off with…

Tubing through Tham Nam

Never done tubing before so wasn’t sure what to expect. We started off wiggling our way into a small gap that entered the cave. All aboard the rubber tubes we made our way into eventual darkness. if not for our head light supplied. Tugging ourselves along with a series of ropes we made our way through what seemed like an endless cave. What was beautiful is when shafts of light would enter from the entrance, illuminating the water.

With the cave there were strong currents at certain points that just swept you if you weren’t holding on tight. Also at different points you could stand up and take it all in.

Just having a spot of lunch by the tubing cave

Elephant cave (Tham Xang)

A little underwhelming but it wasn’t the main focus of the trip. Essentially it was a small cave with an elephant like shape within.

Kayaking down the Nam Song

Now this was exciting and terrifying for me. I’m not the oceans, rivers or any body of waters biggest fan as I’m not a strong swimmer. So the idea of sitting in a boat and going over rapids which I have no control over bar essentially a small stick with wings was worrying. However once I was in I couldn’t get enough and wanted more stronger rapids and currents. I would definitely to this again and look forward to even more of a challenge with the next river I take on!

We were super lucky when kayaking as we got a mixture of beautiful weather then a light shower which was super refreshing as we went to our first pit stop. We stopped off for a couple of drinks as the sky opened up with a down pour which was amazing to watch across the Laos jungle and river.

Blue lagoon

I’ve been to a few blue lagoons previously and this one is extremely underwhelming and would say not really worth the trip to. It was very busy and arguably not pretty (compared to others I’ve been to) it had fun bits like a swing and a tree you can dive off but overall give it a miss if you plan a visit to Laos

More food

For dinner Pete had some traditional Lao food called Larb. Here’s his take on it.

It was an interesting meal but unfortunately it included too much mint. The sticky rice was amazing though.

We then finished it off with a banana and chocolate roti. Not a massive sweet fan but could eat this everyday.

Ciao x
