REVIEW: Simplicity of Prayer | Joe Sales

I remember once I heard in a sermon from a great priest friend of mine that God answers prayer no matter whether a person prays in silence or says the words to a prayer. Prayer is a way for one to connect with God and doesn’t have to be difficult. It can be quite simple actually.

With that being said, I was fortunate to receive a beautiful book by Reverend Andrew Highway. The book is called Life’s Complicated: Pray Simply. This book is perfect because Reverend Andrew Highway has created a beautiful resource to meet people where they are at in life no matter what their situation maybe.

In Life’s Complicated: Pray Simply, you’ll find simple prayers that speak to people about Ordinary Things, When Seeking God, Through the Year, and In the World. God can answer our prayers even in the moments that may be difficult and complicated.

In my opinion, this is a must have book for people who have faith or who maybe searching and asking questions about some of the greatest mysteries of life and faith. For me this book although I haven’t had it long has been a real blessing. Growing up in the Catholic faith, I am used to having formulas to prayer whether it be the sacraments, daily Rosary, novenas, etc….

Sometimes I get so caught up in the formula that I don’t give God a chance to speak to me through the words and hear the message he has for me.

Not only are we children of God but we are his friends. Next time you pray, Speak to God as if he is right beside you and know that when praying, you are his friend and he is listening.

Although I like the entire book, I do have a favorite prayer inside the book:

To Follow
Lord, Jesus Christ,
To Follow you, I realize
that I must put aside my ambition,
my plans and my ego.
Make it my heart’s desire
to know your presence,
your peace and your purpose.

When you pray, just know it’s doesn’t have to be that difficult. As we continue to strive for holiness in life, faith, and everything in between, we will come across many difficult moments but through prayer, we can overcome any hurdle that comes our way.

Thank you Reverend Andrew Highway for bringing together prayers like the one mentioned above that will help people along the way no matter how complicated their life can get.

I absolutely love this book and I highly recommend it.
