⸻daydream is an influence-logging publication for creative spirit refuelling ♻️

🪼 currently working on a prod design portfolio & building up caperflower & myself; here are 14 pieces of work that fuelled my creative spirit=

⸻① ミヤタ ナナ(nana miyata)’s illustrations

nana miyata is a japanese illustrator that i found on instagram & she never misses with her artworks. using the Y2K aesthetic on traditional canvas creates this beautiful balance & contrast that i love; the colorwork & shading on these pieces are incredible too. the character’s outfits; the squiggly lines & shiny appereance gives off a glossy, polished look while still skeletally being an imperfect, unproportionate sketch.

⸻② nottingham contemporary museum

the nottingham contemporary museum is 20min away from where i live while i am in university. i wish my home was 0min away because this place is everything i love about art & design.

the architecture of the building is executed wonderfully with its flower lace-laced walls & pretty bauhaus structure. the inside is just as beautiful; a place where artists can come in and put up exhibitions showcasing their work & sell pieces at the shop. beautiful coffee shop down below, various fairs & events to participate in, lovely staff; this place is my heaven on earth & i’m so fortunate to live nearby it. if you ever want to find me, come here.

⸻③ björk & rosalía’s oral

← music video for oral by björk & rosalía →

two queens that need no introduction making the best song of the year for the purpose of fighting for the unethical farming of salmon. what more do you want.

⸻④ leyu li’s broccopork, mushchicken & peaf

food design? yeah, i know, how did this even become a thing.

i found this browsing dezeen one day & i can’t stop thinking about it. leyu li is ‘a multidisciplinary food designer and strategist based in London.’ — i don’t know what that means but i am supporting whatever this is. it looks cool & it’s making me question my life in a good way.

The speculative project suggests how lab-grown meat might be cultivated on plant tissue, resulting in a range of hybrid meaty vegetables.

i have no clue what health benefits or possibly damages this would do to our bodies but i would be first in line to volunteer eating this thing.

⸻⑤ andré 3000’s new blue sun

an obvious choice, but this new ambient-new-age-jazz project that André 3000 released after a long 17 years hiatus put my mind in a state of tranquillity. beautiful compositions of instrumental harmonies; flutes & synths glossing over an hour & a half of playtime is definitely not anything we expected. definitely something i needed though.

⸻⑥ teenage engineering’s products

teenage engineering is a electronics manufacturing company based in stockholm that mainly prioritizes products directed to music production & recording. the incredible capabilities these products have & the unlocked synergy of man & machine through these gadgets, it’s really beautiful.

they are not products that give off the feeling of disconnecting with nature, they feel like devices i want to take with me to the forest & just make shit for a couple of hours; they add on to the ecosystem. they feel like human extensions but not in a cyborg way. ykwim?

the clean design & cmf is striking & gorgeous; even other products that are not in their main field like tape dispensers, computer cases & backpacks look flawless. they mastered an idea & vision. i wish i could own some of these products but i am broke; it is not happening anytime soon.

⸻⑦ miriam beichert’s acrylic artwork

miriam sophie beichert is a german painter who i stumbled across on instagram. her work evokes feelings of melancholia & nostalgia; it is easily comparable to the uncanniness of analog horror work that popped off early this decade. looking at these objects from an altered state of reality; the muted color palettes & blurry compositions with sharp outlines; it’s a really fascinating collection of ideas that make up something bold & beautiful.

⸻⑧ knxwledge’s rhythmic production skill

knxwledge is a versatile hip-hop producer & streamer who i recognized from their work with old meek mill acapellas that many people praise highly. a friend put me on a track that knx made called espicy. off his new VGM.29 tape today & the production is actually mind-blowing. the fluidity of the drum patterns used is the most intriguing part; the rocking rhythm of the track is unmatched to anything else i’ve heard. add that with choppy guitaring, mariachi & a synth-ridden ending & you make yourself a short, sweet & contagiously-catchy piece. he makes constructing incredible tracks like these look way too easy. thank u thunder for the recommendation.

⸻⑨ grog’s website

grog is the alcoholic beverage brand that max & chad from cold ones started a couple months ago. the entire rollout & graphic & branding work throughout the launch of the drinks has been impeccable; the work that cold ones generally puts out is top-tier shit. the outstanding quality of their promotional material really shows they put a lot into this brand.

the main thing i want to focus on though is the website; it slaps way too hard. the page scrolls horizontally & almost everything in the page is animated. the perspective warps of the can renders & the interactivity of the text are just some of the things that blow my mind with the website. i pray that one day i can be good enough at web design & html/jv to make shit like this.

also, really happy for max for getting married; seeing all the guys together celebrating brings tears to my eyes. this pic is hard af.

⸻⑩ pangram pangram foundry’s pangaia font

the pangram pangram foundry is a type foundry that launched in 2015 & so far, all of their fonts are stunning. they describe their newest font pangaia as ‘a typeface seamlessly blending the splendour of traditional serif fonts with the rough, raw, organic beauty of Mother Nature’; slightly pretentious but undeniably true. the characters are smooth like ghee & the structures of the letters with frequent steep-valley parallel slopes give off the uneven but full look. this is where i wish i knew more about typography to explain why this font is so well done, but i will let you go check it out on your own.

⸻⑪ can sun’s objects

can sun is a chinese contemporary artist who makes absurd sculptures with everyday things. they are light-hearted, contradictory pieces that are fun to look at & think about. there might be some hidden meaning towards these pieces, like how humanity will never be able to control nature; how the circumstances of the birth of a person decides their fate, or how dandelions cannot unscrew a screw. i don’t know these just look nice.

⸻⑫ brian david gilbert’s a dream i had the other day

← the recreation of the dream that they had the other day →

please watch this video, it is unnerving how well they were able to capture the aura of visualizing a dream. brian’s work is definitely worth checking out, great stuff.

@briamgilberthttps://www.youtube.com/@briandavidgilbert/

⸻⑬ horseshoe crab

i love these little guys. they are really spiky & look ferocious but are completely harmless; the only reason they have such hostile & protective shells is because that is the only way they can avoid predators. they are one of the oldest organisms alive; twice as old as dinosaurs. they’ve definitely seen some shit. i sympathize with them a lot. i realized that these crabs look like the desk organizer i made called ‘pillbug’ way more than an actual pillbug. i thought about renaming the thing to ‘horseshoe crab’, but it just doesn’t roll off the tongue well. oh well.

⸻⑭ cities aviv’s subterranean staircase

broken into parts like a splinter from the dark
never really wondered cause I feel it from apart, yeah

this song has been stuck in my head for like two months now. the dreamy, enchanting sample with the blurry, coarse mixing below some echoey, distant storytelling; cutting out into a mellow & therapeutic yet awake instrumental. i just wanted to shout it out because it has been a big part of my life for some time now.
