I have been wondering what are the steps which are helping me to achieve anything I want. I am lucky enough to have realized it in my early age, that I can stay on the track and build my wealth. I talked about these steps with a few of my friends and they resonate with them. This is the reason why I decided to share them with you and, hopefully, it will help you.

As human beings, it is natural for us to want things. However, sometimes we do not even know what our desires are. That’s why the first important step is to decide what you crave for.

1. Decide What You Want

It is quite frequent that people do not like to determine their path in life, are afraid to think of future life, unable to realize their own desires, or scared of taking action. It is more comfortable that someone else is making decisions for them. However, the decision about the direction of your life should be taken solely by you as it will shape your further life and goals.

This decision should resonate with your values and your vision of who you want to become. Take a pen and paper and write it down. Do not put it off, take some time to gather your thoughts and focus on your wishes. I recommend using a pen and paper since there are many researches done proving that this technique will boost your creativity. The following questions can ease to reveal your thoughts.

What are you going to achieve? What kind of person should you become to achieve it? When is the deadline for your goal? How would you know you have achieved it? How does your achievement look like?

Next thing after deciding what you want is to break it down to daily habits.

2. Build Habits Which Will Get You to Your Goal

Congratulations to you! Now when you have decided what you want, it is time to break your plan into attainable small daily habits which will bring you to your goal. What are these activities for you? Do you think you can manage it daily? What is the indicator that you have succeeded?

For example, if the goal is to build up your health, you can start with such a simple habit as drinking lemon water every morning. Another goal might be to write a book so your habit should be writing 200 words daily. Do you get the point?

However, your goal-reaching activities largely depend on your physical wellness. So, the third step is to take care of your health.

3. Take Care of Your Health — Plan Workout and Relax

Jim Rohn once said:

“Take care of your body, it is the only place you have to live in.”

You should live by this quote. If you are in poor health, you are unlikely to enjoy the journey towards your goal, or might even never finish the started.

Additionally, your physiology determines your behavior. Hormones are responsible for your demeanor, so to be able to manipulate their influence you should keep them in balance. Healthy lifestyle, sports and steady diet can efficiently help you out with it. I recommend watching Dr. Grundy’s video, where he explains his lifetime work and shares his findings about diet in the interview with Lewis Howes. Talking about sports, I would recommend any physical activity which you like and are willing to do on a regular basis. Personally, I really enjoy CrossFit and all my workouts are based on the CrossFit method.

On the way to your greatness it is important to pause for a while and adjust your directions so reflection, as a great part of your success, goes next.

4. Reflect

Reflection of your journey is a must! It helps you to see your mistakes, adjust your direction, and see the overall progress.

How can you make it done? Frankly, I prefer to write it down into my Journal every evening, but it can also be a done on a weekly basis. You can also try meeting with your mentors to discuss the progress.

The next step to your success is, obviously, taking action.

5. Action!

If you will only be planning and living the dream in your head then the achievement will never come itself. It is great to visualize, see it happen, but this is never enough. You might have read or heard about the power of positive thinking, however it’s naïve to assume that just visualizing and dreaming could help your dreams come true. Stop living in that bubble, — each goal requires action!

Action is the key to start seeing the progress. Each goal requires specific tasks to be done, not necessarily easy or pleasant ones. Find the strengths within yourself to complete them and you will be rewarded!

If you are really dedicated to achieving anything you want, then you should check next step. It will liberate a lot of time for doing the required action.

6. Stop Watching TV and Spending Time on Social Media — NOW, please!

Addiction to TV and Social Media is the new wide-spread disease of the 21st century. I know people who will spend whole day and night watching movies or series and meanwhile they are constantly checking their social media profiles. It might sound funny, but it is not. If you cannot break this chain, then you are in serious trouble and your life will happen in a blink of an eye.

It is really sad to see people doing it. I wish they will realize that there is so much more than in front of their screens. Nice article about how the smartphones destroyed a generation was written by Jean M. Twenge, click here to read it, if you are interested in this topic.

Throughout your whole journey, you should not stop being thankful for things you already have. The seventh step is the most powerful and easiest one to practice.

7. Express Gratitude

There are many researches done about how beneficial it is to express gratitude. For example, a really well written article about it was published by Harvard Medical School. You can be thankful through praying, meditation or just walking down the street and saying “thank you” for this or that. Being in the state of “thankfulness” will help you to see how much wealth you have in your life. So, what are you grateful for today?

I am efficiently following these steps by using Ephemeris Journal which I have created. If you would like to have it, just send me a raven here — matus.horniacek@gmail.com and I will send it to you as soon as the winter ends (yes, I am a true fan of the Game of Thrones).

Let me know what do you think about this 7-step guide.
