DEVELOPMENT HISTORY
The first self-adhesive produced in the United States by a chemist from 3M company. In 1964, he formulated a new class adhesive with viscosity much greater but not easy to cure. Using it to stick things, you can peel them off easily even after a long time. At that time, people did not think this kind of viscose would have much effect, so they did not pay attention to it.
In 1973, a new product development team of 3M’s, applied the glue to the back of common logos, then stuck a tiny piece of paper coated with wax on top of the glue. Thus, the world’s first label paper was born. Therefore, the role of self-adhesive has been found one after another, and more and more people would like to use it. About the Source company of self-adhesive in US, that is Avery Dennison. Then in China, it is Symbio Inc from Taiwan.
DEFINATION
Self-adhesive label is a composite material made of film, paper or special materials, coated with adhesive on the back and coated with silicon paper as protection paper. It is a finished product label after processing such as printing and die-cutting. When in use, just peel from the base paper, gently press, you can paste to the surface of a variety of substrates. It also can use the labeling machine in the production line automatic labeling.
Compared with traditional labels, self-adhesive labels do not brush glue and paste so it’s no pollution. Futher, it also can save labeling time and is convenient and quick application in a variety of occasions. Using different fabrics, adhesives and backing paper can be processed into a variety of labels, used in the general paper label can not be used on the material. Used for product description, image design and other multifunctional applications.
STRUCTURAL COMPOSITION
Self-adhesive material is composed of four parts as following below:
- The Surface Material: The surface material is the front to accept the printing text, the back to accept the adhesive soldier finally applied to the adhesive material. All flexible deformation materials can be used as self-adhesive fabric (paper, PP, PET and synthetic paper,composite foil, etc.)
- Adhesive: Adhesive is the label material and bonding material between the media, play a link role. The direction of that is determined by different substrate and properties.
- Release Oil: Release oil is according to different glue properties to determine the size of release. It can make the bottom paper into a very low surface tension. Slippery surface could prevent the adhesive bond on the bottom paper
- Base Paper: The material of Base Paper is determined by different usage types, such as paper, PET and flat stick. It can protect the adhesive on the back of the surface material, support the surface material, so that it can be die-cutting, waste discharge, and labeling machine
