Lossless compression is real! Apple uses compression too (I assume their own ALAC instead of FLAC), but for the listener, it doesn’t matter. A lossless algorithm will decompress audio identical to the original file.

Thats not to say other things couldn’t affect the quality of the music played by these services- it’s just that compression wouldn’t factor in if it’s a lossless format.
