Energy is Everything

Time is money. This well-known saying tells nothing but the truth when it comes to the business world. You never know when you’ll be given that opportunity to impress your superiors within your professional life. Sometimes this meeting is planned and for an hour, and at other times it’s random and only a minute. Practicing an “Elevator Speech” for these occurrences is very important and useful. Although these speeches are only around two-minutes long, they will help you be professional and get your audience to accept your proposal. I’ve been practicing my own elevator speech for the management at my Walgreen’s Pharmacy store. In my speech, I am trying to convince them to implement automatic lighting in our freezer and coolers, to save energy.

Pitch Script:

  • Introduce Yourself and Presentation Situation

Hello, my name is Christine Hovet. I am a photo specialist at the Walgreen’s Pharmacy located in Hibbing, Minnesota. I have worked in the Duluth area as well and have been with this company since February of 2016. I am hear to discuss with you, management, about how our company can save energy while being eco-friendly.

  • Get Attention

From my research, I have found on Franchisehelp.com that 71% of Americans base their buying decisions on which businesses are the most eco-friendly and use green strategies. Due to our security and customer service, we are limited to what green strategies we can conduct with our lighting. We are forced to keep most of our lights on 24/7 for the security, care, and quality of our customers.

  • Explain Offer and Value Proposition

There are a few places where we can turn our lights off when we are not using them, one being the break room and the other being the management offices. But there are two other areas that aren’t being utilized in this way, which are the freezer and the coolers. I don’t only work in the photo department, but I have worked in the freezer and coolers day to day. Whether I am stocking, checking inventory, you name it. I have seen that we can turn our lights off in there, when they are not being used. It did not take me long to realize that these lights are on 24/7 as well. You might wonder how we can turn our lights off in here when our customers go in and out everyday, frequently, and whenever they want. Automatic lighting is the key.

  • Describe Benefits; Counter Objections

Other businesses have already approached and recognized this strategy for being green, such as Target. I have been in Target, and the way their automatic lighting works is either a customer or employee will walk down a freezer or cooler aisle, and as they do the lights inside these appliances will turn on and turn off shortly after, within a few seconds.

  • Call to Action

I think that this is a really great way for us to improve our green strategies, lower our bill, and show our customers that we do care about being green. It is a great way to promote it. Thank you.
