You misstate the fundamentals of free market capitalism. People don’t pay, in either time or money, for quality, nor click bait. They pay for utility. Is it useful to them? Quality is entirely a subjective judgement. One persons quality may be another persons boring. In other words, it lacks utility for that person. Another person may find great fun in a click bait story. That’s utility. And for that person, that is the pure definition of quality. You and I, being intellectually superior, may disagree, but that’s just pure arrogance on our part. We can’t presume to know another person’s mind. Click bait is the very definition of capitalism working as it should. Don’t like it? Build a better mouse trap. Compete.
