Bottling the Wee Fuggler
Dealing with the Speidel
I bottled the Wee Fuggler on 12/30. I picked up a case of 16oz (500ml) flip-top bottles from Brew Camp to supplement the bottles I have lying around my place. Everything went relatively smoothly.

I measured a final gravity of 1.012-1.014, which is a little higher than I was hoping. I’m still not sure if my measurements are accurate. And I’m realizing now that I didn’t write down my OG in the first post, but I believe it was somewhere between 1.054-1.056, which means that I did end up with an ABV somewhere between 5.3-5.7%, which is good news. That’s basically what I was shooting for.
The only problem I had was, as mentioned above in the Subtitle, using the Speidel fermenter. The spigot on the Speidel is between the two tubing sizes, so it was a little big for the 3/8" tube I had, and it took some effort to force the tube on. At one point while I was trying to keep the flow of beer from splashing too much, the tube slipped off the spigot and briefly sprayed beer all over my kitchen. Fortunately I got it shut off quickly and didn’t lose much beer. I will have to be more careful in the future.
In the end, I got twelve 16oz bottles, four 22oz bombers, and sixteen 12oz bottles, which is 472oz total or 3.68 gallons. Not too bad. I save a wee bit of beer for yeast harvesting, so maybe my total is closer to 490oz or so, which is a little closer to 4 gallons. Still not bad.
Looking forward to tasting this one — it smelled nice and tasted pretty good from the small sample I tried.
