6 Ways I Awaken My Spirituality
Growing up in London, UK, I never had any connection with the spiritual energies transcending around me.
If anybody ever talked about spiritual awakening? It always felt like it is something which people start practicing after a certain age , being dejected with life ,or experiencing any traumatic event. I, like most people, always assumed that people who meditate in caves or visit religious places are the only ones who practice spirituality. It was only quite recently, when I joined a Yoga class for the sake of physical fitness, that I realized how wrong I was.
Spirituality is a journey you do not take because of disappointment or suffering; it is a journey you take to find your inner self, even when you are at peace. With Yoga, I started going deeper into the many layers of my mind and began bringing my mind, body and soul in harmony.
Yoga Practice
Gradually as I dived deeper into Yogic practices and started practicing meditation, I began understanding the spiritual energies that thrive inside me. I started connecting better with my spirituality and my inner self.
It took me a while to reach a place where I can connect closer to my inner self without any distraction. It was not a one-day excursion. It was a long journey that I travelled with the help of Yoga and meditation. However, as long as it took, I never felt in conflict with myself. I was always happy and at peace. That is the magic of Yoga!
You can also build your spiritual practice, just like I did. You do not need an exotic place or solitude to practice spirituality. All you need is an intention. Here, I am sharing the six ways I connected with my inner self. They might also help you awaken your spirituality.
● Declutter Your Life.
Start by removing all the unnecessary things from your room. They are distractions that do not serve any purpose. As much as decluttering your physical space is important, so is your mental space. Start meditating every day. Let the thoughts flow inside your mind without any judgement. Slowly, your mind will start getting rid of these thoughts and creating a space for you to connect with yourself.
● Expand The Horizons of Your Mind.
Explore new ideas, beliefs and possibilities. You can not pursue a spiritual awakening until you learn something new. Do something you have not done before, like reading a new book, attending seminars, travelling solo, taking an art class or doing Yoga.
● Connect With Nature.
It is important to connect with nature. Our body is made up of five elements: air, earth, water, fire and space. These elements function better and stay in balance when they re-establish their connectivity with nature. So, go outside and connect with the trees, animals and nature surrounding you. You can take a stroll in a park, meditate in an open space or camp in the mountains.
● Self-Care is the Key.
Since our body, mind and soul are all connected with each other, it is necessary to ensure that your spiritual growth is not obstructed by anything. You need to take care of yourself, eat healthy, sleep peacefully and stay active. Self-care will help to keep your physical and mental wellbeing, which will eventually awaken your true Self.
● Practice Yoga and Meditation.
People think Yoga is only a form of physical exercise. However, Yoga also includes meditation and focuses on all three aspects of your health: physical, mental and spiritual. It is one of the best practices to declutter your mind, awaken your spiritual energies and connect with your true Self.
● Experiment With Your Approach.
Spirituality is an experience that is different for everyone. What worked for me might not work for you. Experiment with the tips that people tell you, but always follow the ones that truly work for you. Otherwise, let go and try something else.
