Five doses of inspiration from the worlds of #Innovation, #Futurism, #Finance and #Utilities — plus one company that is #bringingtheawesome.

#1 Innovation can’t just Hppn within the office walls
Ever noticed that when you’re not at work, you become a churning tank of good ideas, then as soon as you walk through the office door it all turns to mush… There are reasons.
For one, your brain treats good ideas like your body treats strange proteins — constantly telling you to reject them, (fantastic analogy, Aidan McCullen.)
And to make matters worse, the corporation rejects your maverick instincts, due to its fixation on maximising shareholder returns — creeping design optimisation takes precedence over innovative ideas.
But thankfully the changemakers are building a voice, and this Innovation Show podcast featuring Gib Bulloch, is an onslaught of optimistic wisdom.
#2 We’re watching you, troublemaker! (Because we like you)
At Hppn, we firmly believe that companies need to hire people who poke holes in convention. Why? Because any organisation that ceases to strive and treats itself like an unsinkable incumbent, will go down like the Titanic.
Approach strategy like you’re the underdog, rather than the big dog.
#3 Don’t just donate data, make it work for you
Hppn design and create services without respect for the old rules. That’s because open data has no respect for industry barriers and old fashioned “sectors”. So instead of building products, build ecosystems.
#4 Eerie visions for Friday the 13th
The Databloom is a realtime presentation of data working intelligently on your behalf, and there’s something awe inspiring about depicting intelligence in this way — like those organic looking sci-fi films, where nature and technology have become a single entity.
So if you want to know what an ecosystem (or an alien) looks like visually (article #3), here it is.
#5 In search of the god battery
Advances in battery storage, and the products which use it are causing so much disruption. Solar panels are booming, electric cars are more than viable, and age-old business models are being transformed. We love it.
Tesla are becoming as much about solar and stationary battery storage as they are about cars, and Utilities companies could be pushed aside completely unless they embrace the distinctive needs of customers who are moving to combinations of solar and electric cars. It’s all up for grabs.
This isn’t business as usual: Moneybox 🎉
Investing in stocks and shares is exciting isn’t it. Glamorous and hopeful at the same time. But it also takes a lot of work, and it suffers from wavering commitment. Naaa, it’s not for me.
Until now! In an age of low interest rates, the savings tool known as Moneybox rounds up your spending and invests it for you, potentially bringing much higher returns than a savings account ever could.
This is a glimpse of how banks could be disintermediated from core services like savings, and a wake up call to banking execs.
