I am also in the minority along with you. I actually think Hitchens is at his most interesting when we gets into some absurd little details or demonstrates his wit and memory. I really enjoy his literary criticism too, like the article he wrote about Ulysses for Vogue. He is also a startling example of the value of ‘having a go.’ He did so much work and put in so much effort. He wasn’t the best at Oxford but he had energy, guts and a measure of self awareness – a sort of ironic humility. Hopefully that makes sense. Thanks for the good read.
