This is vastly true, except for the top executives and ideators of the company. They are considered an essential part of the family and is protected no matter, even though it is for using their skills and ideas for the company's good.

The rest of the employees are given the illusion as the author describes but is shown the top achievers as the successful older sibling in whose shadow you spend your entire life. Thus, pushing them to keep working tirelessly, to attain the golden child's status, which mostly goes in vain.
