A look back at those underdog Raptors, measuring the value of last summer’s free agency, LeBron’s China stance, and some playoff seed predictions (it’s early, don’t judge me later!)

Another NBA season is upon us. The excitement this year of course will be a little more than before, with one of the most intense and league-changing free agency and trade periods in recent memory. The recent stand by Houston Rockets’ General Manager Daryl Morey and LeBron James’ subsequent disapproval have also put a stain on the beginning of the season. Fact-based inference leads one to believe that the league has become an oligarchy. This is certainly not a first in professional sports, thanks to the New England Patriots, the Devil Rays-Yankees salary cap differential, the Montreal Canadiens, and the former nineteen-year Man U-Arsenal-Chelsea stronghold. It appears that the championship formula of the 2018–19 Toronto Raptors will soon be forgotten.

Let us recap the magic of last year’s playoffs. For those like myself who wish to see the super-team era of the NBA come to an end and have a fair and balanced NBA return, the Toronto Raptors made that dream look possible for one playoff run. Their Head Coach, Nick Nurse, did not play for a major NCAA Division…
