How DuPont Knowingly Poisoned Americans With PFAS For Over 50 Years
For over half a century, the chemical giant DuPont engaged in a staggering betrayal of public trust by concealing the severe health hazards of PFAS compounds used to manufacture their famous Teflon product, while knowingly exposing millions of Americans to these “forever chemicals.”
Damning internal documents uncovered through lawsuits and investigations reveal that as early as the 1960s, DuPont’s own studies showed that PFAS chemicals like PFOA (C8) used in Teflon caused liver damage, birth defects, cancer and other dire effects in lab animals. Yet the company systematically suppressed and downplayed these findings, misleading regulators and the public about the chemicals’ safety.
A Paper Trail of Deceit
A 1961 DuPont study found that exposure to PFAS led to liver enlargement in rats, with the scientist warning it should be “handled with extreme care” and skin contact “strictly avoided”. But the company stayed silent.
