The United States government appears to be ignoring the will of the American people by refusing to pursue diplomatic negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. Multiple credible polls have shown that around 70% of Americans support urgent efforts by the U.S. to negotiate a peace settlement, even if it requires compromises from all sides. However, the Biden administration has publicly rejected the idea of negotiating with Russia, instead vowing to back Ukraine militarily “as long as it takes” to achieve its goals of expelling Russian forces from all Ukrainian territory.

This intransigent stance flies in the face of the clear desire among most Americans for a negotiated end to the conflict before it escalates further or drags on indefinitely. The administration seems more concerned with pursuing an outright military victory over Russia than heeding the pragmatic views of its own citizens who want to see an end to the bloodshed through diplomacy.

Such a hardline position risks prolonging the war unnecessarily and increasing the human toll, economic costs, and potential for dangerous escalation with a nuclear-armed Russia.
