The United States has experienced a troubling decline in its quality of life over the past decade, as evidenced by its plummeting ranking in the Social Progress Index.

From 2014 to 2020, the U.S. fell from 16th place to 28th place globally, a stark illustration of the country’s deteriorating living standards

This decline is particularly concerning given that the U.S. is one of only three countries worldwide to see a backward slide in social progress during this period. The regression is even more pronounced when compared to other developed nations, with European countries dominating the top spots in the index.

The factors contributing to this decline are multifaceted but center around three key areas: personal safety, health, and access to quality education. These pillars of societal well-being have all seen consistent erosion over the years, pointing to systemic issues within the American capitalist model.
