I’m Struggling To Scale

When doing it yourself becomes impossible

I have a confession.

I need help, but I don’t know how to quite receive it.

Sometime back in June I hit the tipping point. The number of requests on my time started to outweigh the amount of time that I had. For once, I started to say no to interview requests or invitations to catch up over Skype.

Then in September I announced The Conference For Men and the floodgates opened.

I’ve spent a solid twelve hours a day in front of my laptop for the past several weeks. I’ve been meeting with dozens of colleagues, mentors, and advisors as I plan what’s sure to be a life changing experience for dozens of men.

I have a small core team. And I’m purposely keeping it small so the men who are a part of it get to be stretched, instead of having a core team of ten or twelve who are all being underutilized.

Sam Hershberger and Dave Booda are on the ground in San Diego scouting out venues and negotiating with vendors. Chris Arnold is making a killer website. And with their help (and the input of dozens of trusted advisors), I’m crafting a weekend that will blow these guys’ socks off.

The conference isn’t the only thing on my plate right now.

I’m also planning a retreat in January with Kyle and Nicky for six entrepreneurs to get their EXECUTE on. Full details to come within the next two weeks.

I also wrote a book in August (called “August”) and I’m working with Angela Lauria to get it published in the next two weeks.

I’m also redesigning my entire website with Katie Benedetto and I hope to have it up in the next two weeks as well.

Sounds a little stressful? It is.

I need help right now, but I don’t have the time to even figure out what to outsource.

And I have an extremely busy workload right now, but it’s mainly because I’m doing four things that I’ve never done before. Once everything is launched, I’ll go back to doing what I do best: coaching, speaking, and writing.

But damn, right now it just sucks a little. So what are my options?

I could hire a virtual assistant overseas from a service like Chris Ducker’s Virtual Staff Finder, but I don’t think I have enough work for a full time assistant.

I could hire a part-time employee here in the United States, but I’m not planning on having much business from February on. I’m actually thinking about closing up my coaching practice for a while to focus on the conference.

I could bring on an intern, but I’ll only need them for the next three to six months. That might actually be the best solution at this point.

I really don’t have an answer right now, but I just want to get this out in the open in the hopes that someone will jump in and offer a solution.

Because I know I’m not the only one in this boat.

I’m just not afraid to say it.
