Brief Overview of the B.Arch Program

Candidates who aim to become architects and create amazing structures and buildings should go for the B. Arch course.

Unlike B. Tech, B. Arch is a 5 year course which consists of total 10 semesters. The program includes subjects such as engineering, arts and technology as well as professional practice of architecture. On completion of this course, one can either choose to pursue M. Arch or Master of Architecture or Ph. D in Architecture. Also one can register with Council of Architecture or COA to start with their independent practice after completing the B. Arch course.

Eligibility Criteria

· Candidates who have completed Class 12 with Mathematics and English as compulsory subjects and have secured minimum 50% marks can apply for this course.

· Candidates who have completed 10+3 year Diploma in any stream can also apply for the B. Arch course.

· Candidates will have to appear for national level entrance examination like JEE Main in order to get admission into the course. A number of private universities also conduct entrances test for admission in B. Arch.

Candidates who score well in the entrance exams can get into the top-notch engineering colleges of the country such as IITs, NITs as well as other Government and private institutes.

Job Opportunities of B. Arch graduates

Due to the rapid infrastructural developments taking place everywhere and boom in the real estate sector, architects these days are able to enjoy great career opportunities.

· The architects can work in numerous governments as well as private organizations and in urban planning, construction, public works departments, urban development corporations, and interior designing sectors.

· They can work in architect firms, consultancy companies, universities located within the country as well as in international destinations.

· Architects can work in construction companies as designer.

· In addition to this, the architects can also start a consultancy firm and start their own practice.

· In Government organizations the B. Arch graduates usually work in National Building Organization, Archaeological Department, Departments of Railways, Ministry of Defense, Public Works Department and Housing and Urban Development Corporation etc.

It is important to note that an architect’s job includes designing of the houses, corporate workplace, colonies, hospitals, apartments, hotels, shopping complexes, stadium, industrial complexes and schools.

The various job profiles of B. Arch graduates include designations like Architecture Designer, Data Analyst, Architecture Engineer, Architecture Draftsman, Interior designer, Staff Consultant, Project Assistant Manager, Technical Assistant, Sales/Business development Manager, Landscape Architect, Art Director etc.

The salary of the architect usually varies depending on their experience in the field. So, a fresher can expect his or her salary to increase with experience in this field. The salary also depends on the company, job profile and location.

So, if you are interested in pursuing B. Arch; you should prepare yourself well so that you can score well in the JEE Main entrance exam. JEE Main Application Form is likely to be available from the first week of December, 2017. So, once the application form is out opt for JEE Main Paper 2 which is meant for students willing to get admission in B. Arch.
