CAT 2017 will be conducted in the month of December by IIM Lucknow and the application form will be available from the first week of August. Students who have been able to score well without enrolling into professional coaching institutes say that these institutes can only offer guidance and it is the candidate who needs to practice, study and perform. Doing self-preparation may seem to be a difficult thing for many but by following the below mentioned steps, this can be done easily:
- Once you have made up your mind to take the MBA entrance exam, the first thing that you should do is know the CAT Exam Syllabus thoroughly. The next thing that you should do is go through the past years’ question papers so that you can make a comprehensive plan and also set priorities as per the importance of different topics. CAT includes multiple choice objective type questions and the entire paper is segregated into four areas, such as verbal ability, quantitative ability, logical reasoning and data interpretation.
- You must take online mock tests so that you get well-acquainted with the real test environment. Moreover; this will save you lot of time as you do not need to allot extra time to understand the mode of test on the actual exam day. You should take at least two to three mock tests in a week.
- Only appearing for mock exams will not help; you will need to analyze them carefully by finding out the areas where you need to improve on. Additionally, you must go through the explanation of answers to find out if inspite of knowing the basic concepts you were not able to solve the question paper well. Continuous analysis and evaluation will help you to score well in the exam.
- When doing self-study for CAT, make sure that you are keeping yourself motivated and you are always on the right track. This can be done by adhering to the study plan which you have prepared. Ensure that your study plan not only includes your topic wise time allotment, reading time and priorities but also your break timing.
- As you know that there are no other alternatives for practice, so it is important that you practice thoroughly. Practice will help you to connect instantly with the question during your actual exam day. Practicing regularly will not only increase your speed but will also make you more accurate.
- If you find questions a bit difficult to crack when solving previous years’ question papers, then you must go the opposite way and scan the answer options first. At times, the answer options carry vital clues which can help you in solving the question. You can also answer the question by excluding wrong options first as it lessens the number of answer options and makes it a little easier to find the right answer.
Apart from following all the above mentioned points, you should stay confident and positive and you should never underrate your ability to crack the exam as your determination as well as confidence will eventually help you in cracking the exam.
