Blockchain Roundtable in Myanmar

3 min readJun 20, 2019

When we hear the buzzword “blockchain”, bitcoin is often the first (and sometimes only) thing that comes up to our minds. But bitcoin is just the first use case of blockchain technology and the applications of blockchain actually go way beyond the realm of cryptocurrencies. The groundbreaking technology is now being used across different industries, from banking to supply chain management to even the public sector.

A blockchain is an open, distributed database that maintains a continuously-growing list of records, which are linked by cryptography and hardened against deletion, tampering, and revision. If you’d like to learn more about the applications of this revolutionary technology and the pivotal role blockchain can play in aiding Myanmar on its path towards development, an amazing opportunity awaits you.

Phandeeyar will be hosting “Blockchain စကားဝိုင်း”, an interactive tech meetup this Friday!

Date: June 21, 2019

When: 5:30 PM — 8:30 PM

Where: Phandeeyar

We’re sharing some information about what to expect from the speakers of this highly-anticipated event!

First off is Theodor Beutel, a Blockchain Governance Specialist at GIZ Blockchain Lab in Berlin, Germany. With his background in information systems and technology management, he approaches blockchain technology from an impact-driven and user-centric lens. Through an interactive webinar session, Theo will be presenting about how blockchain technology is being used around the world.

Claudia Sosa Lazo, the Senior Product Owner at Wave Money, will be giving a presentation based on her previous experience as a Product Manager at ConsenSys, where she was part of a lean team partnering with governments worldwide to build blockchain-based land registries.

Thet Naing Soe, the Chief Technology Officer of Arena Blockchain Inc., will be one of the panelists. His portfolio of products includes the use of exponential technology, such as augmented reality, virtual reality, and blockchain. Thet Naing Soe has a lot to share when it comes to blockchain, as he is currently working with a startup using blockchain for communication purposes in Ottawa, Canada.

Bo Bo Zin, the Head of Technology Development & Transformation at Yoma Bank, will also be there with us. Bo Bo Zin will be discussing the applications of blockchain technology in Myanmar with a special emphasis on Nagani Chain Co., Ltd., a seamless blockchain solution provider helping local enterprises with supply chain management.

Last, but not least, Aung Ko Ko Thet, who currently serves as the Program Leader & Lecturer at Auston College will also be joining the panel. Aung Ko Ko Thet’s discussion will be centered around Upbit and Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs), which has been dubbed the cryptocurrency version of crowdfunding.
