Last major of the year means more betting! I’ve been looking over the first round odds, and I admit to finding not a lot of what I see as values on the men’s side. So, I’m bringing in the women’s draw and putting my $960 remaining balance to the test.

Individual Bets July 4:

$20 Rublev 13:10 over Bedene— This feels like an even-money match to me, with the 54th vs 48th ranked players squaring off. I’m going to take the odds and bet Rublev. The fact that he’s still on the upswing as a 19-year old but was already matching the results of Bedene gives me a good feeling here.

$10 Shapovalov 1:1 over Medvedev — Shapavolov is coming in to the event on a roll, having won three matches in the qualies plus his semifinal run in Montreal. Medvedev, on the other hand, comes in on a four match losing streak.

$70 Duan 12:7 over Liu — I have no idea why Liu is the favorite here, let alone a solid one. Yes, she won the junior Wimbledon, but that’s a far cry from the main draw. Her results don’t indicate that she’s ready for the pros. Sure, she could win, but that doesn’t make her a favorite to.

$10 Vinci 19:5 over Stephens — Stephens has been playing strong ball so far, making the semis in the last two masters events. That being said, she’s still coming off an extended injury and she got blown off the court when she ran up against two elite players — Halep and Wozniacki — after her deep run. Vinci’s off-speed game seems like it could get Stephens out of her rhythm. I still favor Stephens, but not by that margin.

Others considered Simon 2:1 vs Cilic, Halep 1:2 vs Sharapova, Arruabarrena 33:10 vs Ostapenko. If I were to violate, my no-Fed rule, Tiafoe at 17:1 looks pretty good too.
