New Film Don’t Worry Darling has had Drama Surrounding it Before it even Began Filming- Why?
A recent movie to hit the box office has recently created some drama surrounding it. The movie Don’t Worry Darling had drama stirring among the cast members before the movie dropped. Florence Pugh, Olivia Wilde, and Harry Styles are the main stars in not just the movie but also when it comes to the drama. Though the stars of the movie aren’t the only ones the drama is surrounding for this hit film.
So what is Don’t Worry Darling? This American psychological thriller is a film distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. The plot is based in the 1950’s, revolving around Alice (Pugh) and Jack (Styles) whom live in an idealized community called Victory in which the husbands work on a top-secret project while the wives enjoy their beauty, luxury and an overall ‘perfect’ life. Though, Alice begins to notice cracks within her ‘perfect’ life and begins to question what exactly the men are really doing and why she is in Victory. The film had a budget of $35 million and grossed around $86.7 million within the box office.
Most of the drama all comes back to the director Olivia Wilde who is also in the film starring as a character named ‘Bunny’. During filming Wilde had a split with her longtime partner Jason Sudeikis, in which Sudeikis served Wilde custody papers during a promotional stop for the movie. Shortly after this split, Wilde began dating Harry Styles whom was one of the leads within the film. There was a lot of speculation revolving around if Wilde was having an affair with Styles on the set of the movie.
Goin little more into depth about Sudeikis and Wilde, they happened to be one of the more popular couples in the Hollywood light, and they weren’t just a couple they were also co-parents to their six-year-old son, and their four-year-old daughter. They had been in a seven-year engagement and a nine year relationship prior to their split. When they first announced their split, they claimed there had been no drama and it was a mutual split, though rumors started swirling around when Sudeikis had served Wilde the custody papers during a huge promotional stop for the movie- fans thought this would make sense especially when it came to drama surrounding if Styles and Wilde had an affair on the set for the film.
All of that aside, Florence Pugh whom is the star of the movie has not been promoting the movie. Pugh has only spoken in little bits about the movie and none of those moments seemed to be very positive. Along with this, a US media outlet also claimed that Harry Styles had earned more money than Pugh for his work on the film even though Styles doesn’t have nearly as much experience within the acting industry compared to Pugh. There were also reports that Pugh and Wilde had a screaming match on set, after these claims had spread there were even more claims that Pugh refused to attend any part of the media tour for the film, though when Wilde was asked about this she stated that Pugh’s absence from some of the tour was because she was shooting a separate movie. The only thing for the film that Pugh had attended was the movie premier at the Venice International Film Festival though she didn’t interact with Wilde or Styles once. Throughout all of the drama and rumors surrounding Pugh and the movie- Pugh did share an Instagram post claiming that she was grateful to have made the film.
Taking it even a little farther back though before the movie even started filming, there was some drama that had surrounded Wilde and famous actor Shia LaBeouf, Shia was casted as the character that Styles now plays. Wilde came out and stated “I say this as someone who is such an admirer of his work. His process was not conducive to the ethos that I demand in my productions. He has a process that, in some ways, seems to require a combative energy, and I don’t personally believe that is conducive to the best performances. I believe that creating a safe, trusting environment is the best way to get people to do their best work. Ultimately, my responsibility is to the production and to the cast to protect them. That was my job,” Though Wilde had stated this, LaBeouf quickly came out and debunked that. He stated that he had quit due to a lack of rehearsal time with the other actors and actresses in the film. LaBeouf even went as far as releasing the texts and emails between both him and Wilde as well as texts between him and Pugh. Below you can see some of the texts that were leaked.
