On Thursday, June 1, President Trump announced that the US will withdraw from the Paris climate accord. The decision that America will no longer participate in this historic agreement follows his long-standing dismissal of the perils of climate change.

Three weeks later, the Rainforest Partnership is launching the first-ever World Rainforest Day as a collaborative effort to raise awareness and encourage action to save one of the earth’s most precious resources, our rainforests. Thursday, June 22 provides an opportunity to celebrate this precious natural resource and take action to preserve it.

Explains Rainforest Partnership Executive Director Niyanta Spelman: “It is essential that we protect our rainforests if we want to stabilize climate change while the planet moves to a low carbon economy. The world needs to know how critical these precious ecosystems are to our planet’s health. This inaugural World Rainforest Day is the opportunity to educate the world, encourage action and celebrate our rainforests.”

Help spread the word on social media about Thursday, June 22 by using the hashtag #WorldRainforestDay.

Based in Austin, Rainforest Partnership seeks to protect and regenerate tropical rainforests by working with the people of the forests to develop sustainable livelihoods that empower and respect both people and nature. Visit the Rainforest Partnership website to learn more about their mission.
