#WirVsVirus Hackathon Report from the Open Marketplace Team

The German government’s #WeVsVirus Hackathon was a complete success. incredible numbers reflect this success.

  • 43,000 registrations
  • 1900 Pat: inside for challenges
  • 2900 mentors
  • 27,000 active users: inside on the platform
  • 13,000 profiles at Devpost
  • 1,500 registered projects
  • 100 projects from the ministries
  • 464,866 Slack messages (and counting…)

The marketplace was also a part of it, to provide a new way of shopping in a local community. Open, free and privacy-focused.

The Idea?

  • Build a self-sustainable online marketplace.
  • The marketplace should be free to use.
  • Shops can be directly created in an app.
  • No fees or other costs will be taken by the marketplace itself.
  • The marketplace is decentralized and developed by a community.

48 Hours to…

  • Create a solid Visual Design
  • Describe the Problem and Solution

So far, 48 hours are really hard to build a product. Even our team was two developers and one designer. But we builder the bases and drew the architecture.

The progress

We got a lot of work done this weekend. Thanks to the nice motivations of the Hackathon

Landingpage

We build a landing page with a clean visual design.

We want to collect all the shops in the city. Each city it’s is own platform and provides services to its local community.

With a delivery system with participating from the local community, there are instant deliveries possible.

Demo Application

You can add a shop MAM root to the unit and load the shop information and articles.

You can also directly chat with a shop owner directly peer2peer. (text are some random demo texts). This peer2peer connection is solved via a WebSocket connection initiated via the MAM protocol.

In the shop admin dashboard, you can configure everything about the shop and create new products and manage your orders.

The shop’s data lives in MAM Stream into the Tangle. This allows us to create a public shop — but also protected shops where you need a password to get the read the information and articles.

What I've learned?

Many projects of the hackathon had the same idea, but a different vision. They want to build the next big platform — a central platform for local shops.

The marketplace application provides not a platform, it’s just software to create its own platform within the local community from the local community- without the incentive of making a profit.
