When people listen.

Because of a friend’s text message, I woke up today feeling wholesome.

A text message that reads:

“www.(histumblradd).tumblr.com — tot i’d share this with you”.

We had dinner last night with another friend and he’d walked home with me. We confided in each other about our relationships, and each other listened.

I shared with him about my three-year relationship. Under the blanket, full of obstacles, struggles, growth, and everything you could imagine. She was my safe haven, my counsellor, my cute joy, my depression. It was a ride, nonetheless a very important one in my life.

He just listened. And he stayed to listen more. And with the most sincerity, he said he was really happy for me.

At the end of it, he gave me a hug. So full of empathy, so full so love.

So when I received his message this morning about his tumblr add… I broke into feelings. Because at mid to late twenties, in a city so focused on making money, nobody shares their heart anymore.

Through this incident I learnt a few things:

  • Intentional listening is life changing one step at a time.
  • Acceptance is when I’ve realised it has been silly of me to treat those obstacles with so much fear it sabotaged my life for more than 2 years
  • How lucky I am to be surrounded by people so full of love, so zealous about life, so accepting!

I am incredibly humbled.
