SELF-LOVE & INTROSPECTION

Chinese New Year Eve, also known as Chuxi, marks the culmination of the Rabbit Year and the eagerly anticipated dawn of the Dragon Year. It’s a time of profound significance in the Singaporean calendar, symbolizing not just the passage of time, but also the renewal of hopes, dreams, and aspirations. As families across the island gather to bid farewell to the old year and usher in the new, there is a palpable sense of excitement and anticipation in the air.

As the sun sets on the eve of Chinese New Year in Singapore, the city-state undergoes a remarkable transformation. The streets, usually bustling with activity, take on a quieter, more contemplative air as families retreat into the warmth and comfort of their homes. Inside, the atmosphere is charged with a sense of expectation as preparations for the festive celebrations reach their crescendo.

For me, Chinese New Year Eve holds special significance as I gather with my family at our home in Singapore. Surrounded by the warmth of my mum and my two sisters, we share a simple meal filled with love and laughter. It’s a time when we communicate effortlessly, understanding each other’s unspoken thoughts and feelings. Despite the challenges and uncertainties of the past year, we find solace in each other’s company, drawing strength from the bonds of family and tradition.

As we sit around the table, I am filled with gratitude for the blessings in my life. I am grateful for the opportunity to spend this precious time with my loved ones, to share in the joys of togetherness and tradition. In a fast-paced world, these moments of connection and intimacy are truly priceless.

As the night deepens, we embrace the tranquility of the moment, taking time for self-love and introspection. I steal away for some “me time,” finding solace in quiet reflection. As the clock approaches 11:11 pm on Chinese New Year, I pause to consider where I am in life. Am I aligned with my own heart and mind? Do I feel at peace with myself and the world around me?

I am reminded of the profound truth that the biggest distance between human beings is not physical; it lies in our ability to share our inner thoughts with trust and confidence, without fear of judgment. And more importantly, it lies in our capacity to love and feel loved by those who matter most to us.

As midnight approaches, the excitement reaches a fever pitch. We gather around the television to watch the countdown, eagerly awaiting the stroke of midnight that will herald the arrival of the Dragon Year. As the clock strikes twelve, we exchange hugs and well-wishes, filled with hope and anticipation for the year ahead.

In the midst of these joyous celebrations, there is another tradition that holds a special place in my heart — coloring with my mum’s artwork. My mum, who is pretty creative, creates intricate colourings that capture the essence of our lives in Singapore. With her permission, I have included one of her drawings in each of the 16 articles, adding a touch of beauty and creativity to my writings.

As I sit beside my mum, coloring in her exquisite designs, I am filled with a sense of peace and contentment. There is something deeply therapeutic about the act of coloring, a quiet and meditative activity that allows me to unwind and reconnect with my inner self. And to do so while surrounded by my mum’s beautiful artwork is truly a gift beyond measure.

In conclusion, Chinese New Year Eve is a time of reflection, reunion, and renewal. It’s a time to honor the past, celebrate the present, and embrace the future with open arms. As we gather with our loved ones to usher in the new year, let us cherish the moments of togetherness and gratitude that make life truly meaningful. I wish all of you happy, healthy and free from all sufferings.
