Abdul Sattar Edhi

Abdul sattar Edhi a famous Humanitarian and philanthropist was born in 1928 in Batva.

Edhi was a legendry pakistani who founded the Edhi foundation which gave shelter to helpless and homeless, hospitals for needy, orphanages for orphans and Rahab centres all over Pakistan.

He is one of the country’s most respected personality. His selfless services are famous all over the world. For me he is an “Angel of mercy”.

His wife Bilquis Edhi proved to be his right hand. Edhi’s childhood spent in caring for his ill mother and paralyzed father. His mother raised his passion to do something for the sick. He moved from India to Pakistan he is a witness of War.

He began his charitable work, he also met some kind hearted people who helped him in making hospitals and orphanages across the nation.

He also raise voice for the rights of women. He realize to expand his services for women because they were treated bitterly in 1957.

Awards:

He received Magsaysay Award for public service in 1986.

Several international awards.

Peace prize from USSR 1998.

Balzan prize.

Brotherhood prize from Italy 2000.

Personal life:

Edhi lived an austere life and shunned all kinds of publicity.

Despite being the recipient of numerousinternational honours. He preferred to stay away from the limelight .

He suffered from kidney failure in 2013 and remained in ill health for the rest of his life. He died in 2016 at the age of 88. He wanted to donate his organs but due to his illness only his corneas were suitable.
