how high fidelity mock ups often distract clients/users from the core functionality of what is to be tested
I had a few people ask for an example and I can think of one recent one:

One of the least talked about components of a design process is matching the artefacts/prototypes to where your understanding is at and what you want want to achieve by making it. Normally this is too high fidelity too early.
