4 things Republicans will do and not face any repercussions, because our country is irreparably broken

Over the last year, its become increasingly clear that the Republican party is no longer a loyal opposition party in the truest sense of the term. Instead, it is on a quest for power and it does not care what is damaged along the way. Our government institutions, the electoral process and the way we live are all on the table as long as the Republican Party can squeeze a few more years in power out of the aging boomers.

So in the spirit of listicles the world over, here are five things Republicans will do — or not do — and face no repercussions for.

  1. No debates.

Donald Trump has yet to release his tax returns, a first in modern presidential history. He does this because he can. There are no penalties for him, and his supporters splutter in between gulps of “America” beer that Hillary Clinton hasn’t released decades of speech transcripts, so its the exact same. So why not skipping presidential debates entirely?

It’s become increasingly clear that Donald Trump’s big weakness is being challenged by someone he believes is inferior to him, particularly women. I am sure his handlers and the Republican National Committee know this all too well. I predict that the strategy will be to have no debates with Clinton. How do they accomplish this you ask? Well they will put such onerous terms and conditions on having any debate at all that no one in their right mind would agree to it. Then they can just shrug and say they tried. Fox News will cover for them and the media will claim both sides are to blame. Lather, rinse, repeat.

2. No more supreme court confirmations.

Republicans in the Senate have refused to even hold a hearing on any Obama supreme court nominee, saying that despite being president, he does not have the right to nominate anyone for the supreme court. Its up to the next president, they say. And yet, no reporter has yet to ask them what happens if Clinton wins. My prediction? There will be no more supreme court confirmations as long as a Democrat is in the White House and the Republicans control the Senate. The strategy is to hope that the next justice to die or retire is a liberal, and the court swings back into conservative opinions on a 4–3 split. They will, of course, suffer no repercussions.

3. No concession speech

It happens every election cycle. The candidate that loses makes a concession speech to the victory. The loser officially gives up and acknowledges who won. Even Al Gore did — twice- and the country moves on.

If you think Donald Trump would give a concession speech you are dreaming. There will be no concession speech. Just a vague speech by Trump on how things might have happened somewhere that silenced true Americans. Conspiracy theories, rumors, and of course the conservative echo chamber covering for him. It will be historic in its horror, and the media will be powerless to do anything about it.

4. Republicans will ally against American interests

In an increasingly incoherent attempt to deny Democrats any foreign policy victories, Republicans will actively and publicly undermine Democratic diplomatic efforts. They have already publicly undercut President Obama in his dealings with Iran, and Trump has called on Russia to hack Clinton’s emails. The next step is to just publicly and actively oppose any Democratic effort and stall any foreign policy progress until there is a power transfer.

There you have it folks. My thoughts on some of the things Republicans will do, or not do, going forward. Disbelieve if you want. I will await my vindication.
