Are You Living For You?

“God gave us the gift of life; it is up to us to give ourselves the gift of living well.” Voltaire

A few years ago I ended up in the ER and having to wear a heart monitor for a month for various reasons but ultimately one being stress. At this point in my life I was still trying to figure me out and clearly needing to make some lifestyle changes. I was being pulled by this person and that person, trying to make this relationship work, that relationship work, all while run my day to day affairs and it was driving me into the ground.

There are many people who know some awesome things about me and some who know some not so good things about me but this was major so I started making changes the best I knew. I started doing little things-taking more trips, being more present in my relationships, speaking up when something didn’t feel right (and some of you know I’m already a bit outspoken so this wasn’t that hard) and more importantly I began the process of learning to let go.

Overall, one of the things I realized was that I wasn’t really living for me. I was holding back more in fear of what other people would say, have said or would think, and it was causing me internal pain. I am no expert and I definitely still have work to do in my life but I can tell you after this happened to me that no one is worth your peace of mind and that life is too short to be miserable for any reason that you can fix. You have to do what works for you and your life, even if it doesn’t make sense to everyone else.

Something(s) to think about as we enter this 5th month of the year: What experiences have you been putting off trying? What have you been avoiding getting rid of/purging from your life? And more importantly who have you been allowing to drive your decisions?

Hope this helps someone!
