The SKS Is the Cockroach of Weapons
Robert Beckhusen

The SKS is actually a great rifle as long as you don’t need full auto fire and aren’t planning on using hundreds of rounds every day. The 7.62x39 round is very effective in either war or for hunting medium game. Like all intermediate rounds, it’s not designed to be effective out to 1,000 yds, 300 yds is really the max range and you’ll be dealing with quite a bit of bullet drop at that range. I remember seeing these at gun shows by the crate. I regret not picking them up for the bargain price of around $100 back then. Today, the prices are actually pretty insane considering what you can buy an AR for.
