A Different Take On Things…

If you’ll allow me to be completely transparent, I want to talk about the many ways our perspectives tend to take over our lives. What we think may not always be reality. I’ve experienced it and unfortunately, done it myself.
Whether it be unintentional racism, bias of opinion, personal preference or simply just being yourself it is important that we all realize that what we think is not always reality. Some of the things we project onto others is more hurtful than we think. Yes, you may think it is as harmless jokes, your prerogative or “that’s just the way that I am” but take a step back. Put yourself in the persons shoes and think about how it would feel if someone would do it to you.
It doesn’t feel good, does it?
Before you treat someone less than you would like to be treated think about the consequences of your actions and behavior. A lot of what we tend to do to others comes from us. Our own self righteousness and ego, but this is just from my personal experiences. Our egos and “who we think we are” tend to drive a lot of our decisions. Often times leading to such biases that leave us all separated and dysfunctional.
Think about it.
The next time you find yourself spewing something negative or just because you feel entitled, ask yourself: Would it feel good if someone were to do it to me? Better question, why do I feel the way that I do? In all honesty, when you think about it a lot of our opinions etc have more to do with you as a person, your education, economic background and your immediate sphere of influence than it does the other person you may be projecting them on.
My advice: Think before you talk.
More so think about the other person. Just because you may think it or the other person may appear to deserve it or be hard on the outside, doesn’t make it right. Some people are more fragile than you think and if we all took the time to sweep around our own front doors from time to time we could help save other people around us a lot of time, a lot of heartache, therapy and unfortunately, questions that should’ve never had to be asked.
As always, Hope this helps someone!
